LASERS & IPL
Copper Bromide Laser The removal of skin blemishes, including ‘broken’ capillaries, sunspots, age spots and moles, is best achieved with laser treatment. Results are immediate with capillaries.Photo-rejuvenation can also be done by the copper bromide laser. This painless procedure (performed using an anaesthetic cream) is ideal for a generalised ageing appearance from red and brown blemishes.
Erbium Laser This laser is used to improve surface skin problems such as sun damage, pigmentation, texture and wrinkles. Generally the skin takes 5 to 10 days to fully heal. It may be red and sensitive for 2-3 weeks but can be covered with makeup.
IPL Skin Rejuvenation Over about eight weeks we will take you through a series of treatments using laser and IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) to get rid of wrinkles and blemishes. We can treat broken capillaries, spider veins, pigmentation, sun damaged skin, moles and freckles, fine wrinkles, pigmentation on the hands and arms, and acne.
Laser Hair Removal IPL, Lightsheer and Electroylis IPL/laser hair removal supersedes all other hair removal systems for efficiency and safety.
V-Beam Laser Treatment Remove blood vessels, dark moles, etc. with minimal effects on surrounding skin tissue with the V-Beam laser that emits a coloured beam of light energy that is absorbed specifically by red and brown skin lesions. Suitable for spider veins, facial blood vessels, red scars, moles, birthmarks and various other conditions. With such accuracy, there is minimal risk of discomfort, scarring or delayed healing compared to most other forms of treatment.
Laser Hair Reduction
What is laser hair reduction ?
Using a laser to remove unwanted hair is often chosen because of its potentially long-lasting effects. A laser is a beam of very focused light. If tuned to the correct frequency, the light energy can be used to damage hair follicles without damaging the surrounding skin.
How does it work ?
Several different types of laser are available for hair removal. However, they all work in basically the same way. The hair follicle contains a dark pigment, called melanin, which will absorb laser light more effectively than the surrounding skin. This causes the pigment to heat up and damage the follicle, thereby reducing hair growth.
What factors can affect the treatment ?
The colour of your skin and hair are important factors to take into account. Lasers often do not work well with very light coloured hair, and they are more likely to cause complications with darker skin. The type and grade of laser being used will also have an effect. Medical grade lasers are more powerful, and hence more effective, but should only be operated by trained medical professionals in premises approved by the Healthcare Commission.
What can I expect during the treatment ?
You will need to avoid plucking or waxing the area to be treated for about 4 to 6 weeks before the procedure. This will ensure that the hair follicles contain growing hairs that the laser can target. You will need to shave the area a couple of days in advance.
During the treatment, your practitioner will direct the laser over your skin using a handpiece. This will emit the laser beam in short pulses, during which time you may feel a stinging sensation. This is not overly painful, and has been compared to the pain of waxing. Anaesthetics are generally not required. The treatment can last for a couple of minutes for a small area like the lip, up to an hour for larger areas.
There is no downtime, and you can return to normal activities immediately afterwards. You should avoid exercise for 24 hours to reduce sweating, and must not pick at or scrub the treated areas. You can gently wash with soap and water though. If you are having a course of treatments, you should not pluck or wax the hairs in the meantime. It is also important to avoid the sun for several weeks, and to wear a good sunscreen afterwards.
How many treatments will I need?
This depends on your hair and skin type, and on the quality of laser being used. Higher specification machines are generally more effective, so less treatments are required. Having the appropriate laser for your skin type can improve effectiveness.
You will generally require several treatments to get a good result. These will be spaced at about 4 to 6 week intervals. It is important to be realistic about your treatment goals. Although some people will experience a near permanent removal of hair, you may have only a reduction in your hair density. |
